L'Acadie is known for it's celebrating. We start at the beginning of summer by offering a wide range of festivals accompanied by activities for all ages, good music, delicious foods and lots of acadian warmth and pleasure. During the day, you can visit many tourist attractions. Here is a brief summary of the different activities our region has to offer:

The Historical Acadian village   

The Historical Acadian village represents the lifestyles of our ancestors between the years 1770 and 1939. During your visit, you will be able to visit the homes and the way of life of that time. You will even be able to travel with a horse and carriage like those days. The village counts 40 buildings. We offer you an example of a page taken from our booklet, although our info-guide contains three complete pages on the Historical Acadian village.

Aquarium and Marine center    

Discover the rich collection of fishes and invertebrates that live in the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the lakes and the rivers of Atlantic Canada. You will even have the occasion to see the rare species!!!

I captain!!! – Take the helm of the ship in a wheelhouse and you will see how today’s fishing industry uses the latest electronics breakthrough, including navigational instruments.

An overview of the sea – Plunge your hands in the touch tank filled with molluscs, sea cucumbers and many other little marine creatures. But go easy!!!

Our fishing traditions – Meet our captain and learn more about fishing and its history, and on its many covetousness aroused by the abundance of the fish stocks in the region since the eleventh century.

Aquaculture resources – The Marine Center of Shippagan also has a research and development center in aquaculture.

Beaches    

The Acadian peninsula is well known for it's many beaches.
If you want a crowded beach or a more peaceful one, there is obviously one for you. For example, the following picture gives a view of a beach in Ste-Marie St-Raphaël. This beach offers you free parking, a picnic area, women's and men's washrooms and showers. As you can see on the photo, an enchanting scenery awaits you. A fun fill activity for the whole family, young and old!

The Ste-Marie St-Raphaël beach is located on the Lamèque Island at approximately 15 minutes from Shippagan.

The Acadian peninsula Ecological Park    

Nature lovers will be overwhelmed by their visit to the Eco-Park in Lamèque. A 3km trail allows you to admire the many flora and fauna habitats of the Acadian peninsula. The center is developed so you can discover the richness of our natural heritage. The Eco-Park has different facilities such as a tourist information stand, an interpretation trail and an arboretum where grows about thirty different wild species proper to the region.

There is also a footbridge with a telescope that allows you to observe the different aspects of the Eco-Park that makes it so special.

The Popes' Museum    

Located in Grande-Anse, the Popes' Museum officially opened on the 7th of July 1985. It's the only North-American museum dedicated entirely to papacy. You will be able to discover the Roman Catholic faith of the Acadian peoples.

While visiting, you'll have the opportunity to discover a few replicas of different religious architectures, pictures of the 262 popes who have reigned and liturgical clothes and vases just to name a few. You will also be able to view the St-Peter's Basilica replica which is 21 feet large by 11 feet wide.

Bird watching    

It is very frequent in the Acadian peninsula to see people along the roads observing birds. The Naturalism club of the Acadian peninsula as acknowledged this richness. The club is founded since 1986 and offers information to people who want to learn more about birds. People can attend meetings whether they are members or not.

These are a few examples of the tourist attractions that you can discover in our region. In the evening, there are usually a lot of acadian musical shows often accompanied by dances. If you enjoy the nightlife, you can visit one of our many nightclubs. You want a more quiet evening, catch a play or enjoy a quiet walk on the beach. You will be mesmerized by a beautiful sunset.
